Questions & Answers (or at least, reasonable guesses)
Q: How will teams be formed?
A: Students are assigned to teams based on a) coaches choice b) returning members c) age - so students can move up together.
Q: How much will it cost?
A: Between $40-$120 per student for Jr.FLL and $60- S200 for Sr.FLL league depending on number of kids & kits to purchase (returning teams cost less). See COSTS page.
Q: What is a typical team meeting like?
A: My Jr.FLL team meets at my home Fridays 5-6:30 pm 1) Kids socialize - warm up games 2) Building, researching, brainstorming... 3) Plan for next meeting - play out back like crazed squirrels awaiting pick-up. NOTE: Other teams will have different days & times. Sr.FLL meet longer or more often as their season is shorter and has a deadline.
Q: What if 7 Jr.FLL students (or 11 Sr.FLL students) want to participate - can we add one more to a team?
A: Yes and No. For Jr.FLL 7 is a lot to manage working on one project and you may NOT attend events, BUT it's the coach's decision. In Sr.FLL teams over 10 are disqualified from competing.
Q: We're interested - what do I do?
A: For FLL 4th - 8th grade (1) Email us through the "Contact Us" tab (2) Teams form in July - coaches send email invites to their teams. Once your team is complete and all checks have been received by the coach (3) coach registers the team, orders Lego Kit and field mat and teams GET BUILDING!
Q: Is this for Coles Crossing/Sampson Elementary/Spillane MS students only?
A: No way! We encourage students and home-schoolers from all areas to join us OR form teams within their own subdivisions!
Q: May friends and siblings be placed on teams together?
A: Possibly. The coach has final say over his/her roster placing their kids and friends before granting requests. If you have a bunch wanting to be together, your best bet is to COACH !
Q: May 4th graders be in Jr.FLL? May 3rd graders be in Sr.FLL? May middle school students join FRC?
A: Yes, yes and yes. Younger is not a problem but a student older than the cut off dates will disqualify the team from competing in Sr.FLL and FRC. Jr.FLL is non-competitive thus up to the coach.
Q: Who is organizing the Jr.FLL teams for Cypress this year?
A: No idea. My team has moved up and nobody has volunteered to take it on. I suggest you email friends & other students in your child's classroom to form a team. Good luck!
