World Championships George Brown Convention Center Level 1 Halls A-E Houston, TX April 19-22, 2017
FIRST Robotics Competition - "The Varsity Sport for the Mind." We first attended an event at the Brown Center in 2010 and were blown away by what we saw these students doing. The work area looked like a NASA workroom or something out of Area 51. Now our daughter is a member of Cy-Borgs team 3335!
FRC combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. Under strict rules, limited resources, and time limits, teams of 25 students or more are challenged to raise funds, design a team "brand," hone teamwork skills, and build and program robots to perform prescribed tasks against a field of competitors. It’s as close to "real-world engineering" as a student can get. Volunteer professional mentors lend their time and talents to guide each team. FRC build season starts the first weekend of Jan. The kids have 6 weeks to design, build & test their robot then they 'bag it'. They are not allowed to touch it until the competition. Competitions start the first weekend of March through the first weekend of April.
